Jonathan Hamilton

Hey 👋, I'm Jonathan or Jonny. I'm a design engineer (or front end developer) based in Newcastle, UK. I am currently working on AI tools in the finance industry.

My background is traditional design and I taught myself to code pretty early on, making websites for friends bands and local businesses. I found I preferred to be in with the clay so to speak vs moving rectangles around in photoshop or .

I take a lot of inspiration from the skate and punk scenes, big believer in the DIY ethos, and try and use this with my day to day work. There is an AI elephant in most rooms and I am trying to figure out how to make this something that works for people, and not just a tool for big companies to make more money.

I am constantly tinkering with ideas, and trying to push the boundaries of what I can do with code. I created concepts for how a boarding pass would work on the Apple Watch (when it was rumoured) for British Airways, I also created the first mobile page on their website showing how responsive design could work, I also showed how SASS could work for creating a design system to allow they to change styles much faster across their site (this was before css variables were a thing).

My main tools would be Typescript, React & React Native. I feel like these can take me from prototyping to production and iterate fast. I'm pretty pragmatic when it comes to languages and frameworks.
